In Southwest Washington, wildfires can occur at any time of the year. How? you ask? The reason is the dry east winds that can howl through the area at almost any time of the year. They are most prevalent in the autumn. Even though it may seem damp - a few days of east wind will readily dry the fire fuels to the point where they will burn readily. In fact in 2002 DNR responded to a 13 acre fire in Southern Cowlitz County on Thanksgiving Day! Be careful with fire year round!

If you're camping follow our simple tips.

Washington States Largest wildfire occurred right here in SW Washington, "The Yacolt Burn".
